My poodle, Suzy, really loves the dog treats I used to get. She would go crazy for them, and the only way I could get her to do tricks for shows was by promising her these treats in return. She would hop up on her hind legs and do all sorts of cool things for them. In the end, she ate more of this one brand than any of my other dogs. We called her Suzy the Hut because she loved them so much. Finally, though, she got a little sick. At first we wrote it off as a cold she caught at the latest show, but then she kept getting worse and worse. She wouldn’t eat – not even the dog treats – and was having problems going to the bathroom. As you can imagine, we took her the vet soon enough.
She spent a long time at the vet’s. At first he couldn’t find anything wrong with her. Then they asked us about her diet. The moment I mentioned the dog treats she ate, they got very concerned and said that brand had killed a lot of dogs! Can you imagine? I was killing my Suzy! I was very distraught, but the doctor assured me he could help Suzy if I stopped feeding my dogs that brand of dog treats. Of course I said yes!
A week later Suzy was almost all better. She was better enough to come home, anyway. The first thing I did was get rid of that brand of dog treats. I never wanted to see them again! Instead, after doing a lot of research, I decided to make my own treats for my dogs. It’s not that hard. Just a lot of good, wholesome ingredients that are good for them and they love.
